"I was considering readin the bool until I learned it was written in the late 1800s!!! This book seems too outdated to gather any knowledge from" The mid-late nineteenth century was for many the Golden Age of Bible exegesis and commentary. So many of the critical works, concordances, etc. come from that era. Ray Franz, among others, certainly thought so.

Per Mary: " "Jerusalem will [continue to] be trampled on by the nations" whence the creative "[continue to]" embellishment to the text?

Room 215
"Our Kingdom Service" was discredited and changed back in a Kremlin-style effacing of all vestiges of the creeping liberalization of the Ray Franz era.

.... which is to say, YKnot, in your case it was the SPEAKER who was special

Yknot, sadly there are far too few JW speakers of the kind you describe above; there never were too many to begin with and now they are on the point of extinction.

Were There/Are There A Number Of Gays At Bethel?
by minimus ini remember the "boy's club" mentality from many of the bethelites in the 70's and 80's.
it seemed there were a number of males who were "effeminate" back in the day.. i knew of one guy that was told by the bethel brass that he would "go places" at headquarters if he could learn to deepen his voice and tone down his gestures a bit (and he was told it wouldn't hurt if he ever married a fellow bethelite sister).
this man was extensively used at conventions, became less "gay looking" and got married.. so my question is, did you see effeminate men in bethel?

Room 215
I was there in 1969 -- that's when they expelled more than 40 for being gay. I can't forget that, during my first month there, my table head, a senior Bethelite with a big job in the service department, a lifer, told me "there are a lot of guys 'light on their feet' here at Bethel. One school of thought which made rounds that it was ok - or at least tolerated -- as long as one was NPG, a non-practicing (i.e., celibate) gay.

Today's WT Study Stupidity About Df'ing
by metatron inin today's watchtower study, towards the end, you had one of those typical comments by a former df'ed witness expressing appreciation for being shunned.
these comments always remind me of a stalinist show trial in which the accused enthusiastically accepts being executed for the greater good (probably to save his family).. after this kind of nonsense is expressed, you will get a flurry of self righteous comments emphasizing how important it is to shun your disfellowshipped relatives, so that they can come back in the "truth".. oh, really?
do any of these people raising their hand realize that, if the "success" of disfellowshipping depends on your shunning, then the "repentant" person is "coming back in the truth" for the sake of their relatives -and not because of fearing jehovah !!!???.

As one contributor so aptly expressed it on another, unrelated thread "The WTS is the North Korea of religions." I can't imagine another religion as misanthropic as they.

on the front it has the wording "qualify to live in the paradise" or something to that effect.
just another weird thing that jws teach, having to "qualify" for the paradise, based on your works of course.. the back has the image of daniel with the world powers on it, the bottom has a circle with a "?

Room 215
The three dramas are a concession to the shrinking collective attention span of present day JWs; I agree it's one more indication of their desperation to arrest the decline in attendance. Smacks more of a "dog and pony show" than a spiritually enlightening congress of fellow believers.
